Happy Midsummer // Glad Midsommar

This year we celebrated Swedish Midsummer in Düsseldorf.  Düsseldorf has a Swedish community which organize annually very nice traditional Swedish Midsummer. This year it was in Rosengarten down-town Düsseldorf. They had arranged Midsummer pole, games, quiz walk and Swedish fika that everyone attending brought some Swedish pastry, dessert or sweets to.  The weather was great and we had fun and for the first time we actually came in time for the dancing around the midsummer pole.

Midsummer illustration

It has become a midsummer tradition to make a Midsummer illustration, nearly just as important as the other Swedish midsummer traditions with herring, maypole and drinking aquavit. My mother and her husband are masters in midsummer celebration and are very generous and inviting as many members of the family that fits in their summer house, Lugnet. Team Nikolovski we have attended ever Midsummer at Lugnet since 2013 and are very happy to have this family tradition. This years illustration is in working progress and I will explain more the story behind the drawing when I am done. This is how it looks so far...

Midsummer update & illustration

First of all I do miss my scanner! The illustrations doesn't really come up that well with the camera on the phone and I also don't really have the time at the moment to work on them in the computer. However here is the annual Midsummer illustration. Great memory to capture this very Swedish celebration in an illustration. As the previous three years Team Nikolovski celebrated at Lugnet, my mother and her husband's very nice summer house by the lake. The traditional herring & snaps lunch was planned to start at two o clock and the we got order to be there well in advanced. To follow this order we decided to get ready and leave the house straight away after breakfast (late breakfast but not that late...) My God it takes time to get a two and a half year old ( refused to change from pj to something more decent), a small baby (little cranky because of some tummy issue specially for this day) and a husband ready to go. To pack for this crew only to stay for a couple of d...

Favorite place

Many new experiences for little Mila on our trip in Sweden. New faces. Friends and family members with and without fur to say hi to. Practicing to master the art of rolling. Thrilled to manage stomach to back. Lawn-mower very interesting, boat-trip pretty scary and her favorite place to swing and chilax in the sitting hammock.
